Making the Most of Oral Exams: How New Patients Can Be Proactive at Their New Orange County Dental Office
Good oral hygiene is integral to maintaining confidence and an overall healthy body. At the Dental Oasis of Orange County, we recommend routine oral exams to make sure your teeth are in good condition and that your gums are healthy. When you make an appointment at the Dental Oasis, you can expect the following:
- You will be asked to provide a medical history, listing medications and allergies that you may have.
- The dentist will want to know if you’ve had any pain, discomfort, or problems in your mouth.
- You will be asked to point out the problem areas. If the problems can’t be seen with the naked eye, you will be given an X-Ray to further investigate the problem.
- You will be examined for signs of gingivitis, worn down caps or fillings, tooth abnormalities, and tartar and plaque buildup.
- Your teeth will be cleaned, polished, and flossed.
- Your exam will end with a consultation with Dr. Toorani.
While you are probably familiar with the basics of first appointments with a new dentist, and you’re probably familiar with routine cleanings, you may not be as familiar with how to make the most of your appointments. For instance, there may be medical information that you’re omitting that could be important to your safety and overall dental health.
What Are the Benefits of a Routine Oral Exam?
A routine oral checkup can prevent disease, gingivitis, tooth decay, and even oral cancer. The early detection of things like gum disease can lessen your risk of having a heart attack and other secondary illnesses. An oral exam also ensures that cavities are caught early and that teeth are constantly maintained. It’s important to keep your teeth in working order.
The oral exams at the Dental Oasis of Orange County are conducted by skilled professionals who do extensive checks to make sure that every issue with your teeth is discovered and treated. The examination is quick and painless. You’ll also walk away with a teeth cleaning and a consultation with Dr. Brian Toorani, a CEREC® specialist, a mentor for the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry, and a member of the Spear Faculty Club.
After your exam, treatments or procedures may be recommended to remedy the problem with your teeth. All the while, you will be in the capable hands of Dr. Toorani.
Dental Cleaning Can Help You with the Following
Gather Your Medical History Before Heading out the Door for Your Oral Exam
New patient forms have a litany of questions such as which medications you’re taking, which allergies you have, what your family history is like, and so on.
Before you leave your house for your visit, spend a little time writing down each pill you currently take in your cupboards and also the dosages. Since you may be rushed at the office, your patient form may be sparse and incomplete
While dentists are trained to cover their bases and ask the right questions about safety, they aren’t mind-readers, and a little help from the patient can go a long way!
