At Dental Oasis of Orange County, you can trust our Huntington Beach, California, team to do the right thing. We strive to restore the beauty of your teeth with dental materials that look natural and that blend in perfectly with your features. Due to our skilled and highly personalized approach to cosmetic dentistry, you never have to worry about your treated teeth and smiles looking “plastic” or “fake.” Cosmetic dentistry should complement your personal characteristics and unique features and bring out and enhance your natural beauty. In less skilled hands, however, porcelain veneers have been associated with complaints.
After all, veneers are a “technique-specific” procedure. This means that your satisfaction and outcomes from treatment depend on the professional’s skill who plans, designs, makes, places and secures them to your natural teeth. Veneers, in general, are sometimes called “facings” because they are quite literally thin layers of dental ceramic or porcelain that are prepared and bonded (or secured) to the front surfaces of the teeth. Once the porcelain is placed, it covers up cosmetic flaws. Imperfections that can be treated with this popular procedure include:
Porcelain is the material of choice for many patients and providers. It does a great job of mimicking the properties of natural tooth enamel. It also resists stains well and is durable. As long as you maintain good oral hygiene and keep up with dental check-ups at our office, your treated teeth should last and look great for many years. Refraining from or addressing habits such as teeth grinding will protect your veneers from premature damage, such as chipping and fractures.
All procedures at our office start with a consultation. During that consultation, we can discuss treatment alternatives as needed. These options include “direct veneers” or dental bonding. This procedure involves preparing and applying a dental material called composite resin directly to the teeth. The resin is pliable and can be shaped perfectly by one of our dentists. Once the resin looks and feels great, it is hardened and secured to the tooth to correct a range of cosmetic imperfections. It is generally considered a cost-effective, fast, conservative, and reversible alternative to porcelain (“indirect”) veneers, which partly require the removal of a small amount of natural tooth enamel. So, the veneer fits on top of the tooth well.
