We Straighten Teeth (And Bites!)

With Transparent, Removable, And Metal-Free Aligners Instead Of Braces

Today, many more options exist to straighten crowded, crooked, or unevenly spaced teeth. And these options transcend silver “metal mouth” braces. We at Dental Oasis of Orange County provide clear aligner therapy as an alternative to conventional orthodontic treatment with braces.

Instead of using “fixed” (non-removable) metal brackets and wires to reposition the teeth, our practice in Huntington Beach, California, provides appropriate patients with a series of removable oral appliances called “clear aligner trays.” These trays or aligners are custom-fit to each patient’s mouth. They are made from a clear or transparent plastic that is smooth. So, they are discreet and barely visible in the smile. They are also easy to wear and do not poke at the insides of the mouth. A precision fit is also essential because the aligners are designed to place consistent yet gentle forces on the teeth. This pressure gradually repositions the teeth.

A modern, stress-free alternative for many smiles

When Invisalign® was first introduced in the late 1990s, clear aligners were appropriate for minor spacing and cosmetic issues. This system has evolved to now correct more severe spacing and bite-related issues, including overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite. Over time, more aligner systems have been introduced, too. They include SureSmile®. We are among those providers trained and equipped to offer an array of clear aligner products and options. We are happy to discuss the pros and cons of each and to help you make the most informed decision about your treatment.

While each system may differ in terms of proprietary designs and materials used for their unique clear aligners, these orthodontic appliances generally require a minimum daily wear time. We typically advise that aligners be worn at all times, including overnight, except when eating meals and when brushing and flossing the teeth. Our patients love that orthodontic treatment doesn’t have to stand in the way of enjoying their favorite foods or maintaining good oral hygiene.

We will also advise on how to clean the aligners and when to visit our office to get your next set of aligners. Our dentists can also confirm that treatment is progressing on schedule. The number of aligners required for treatment varies and depends on the condition we must address and the severity of misalignment or malocclusion. In turn, total treatment time varies (but is comparable to braces, without the hassle).

Each aligner tray corresponds with a different phase of treatment and is worn mainly for around two or three weeks before moving on to the next set of aligners in your treatment plan. Compliance with both daily wear time and with wearing aligners in the correct order is also essential to ensure treatment moves forward properly.
