Same-Day Crowns in Huntington Beach, CA

At Dental Oasis of Orange County, we always strive to help our patients maintain optimal oral health and to provide patients with quick, convenient, and effective dental care. Same-day crowns with CEREC technology are a popular and effective way to restore function, beauty, and health to your smile.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown (also called a dental cap) is a type of prosthetic dental restoration. Dental crowns are designed to cover and seal the portion of a tooth located above the gum line.

Designed to resemble natural teeth and blend seamlessly into a person's smile, dental crowns are made of tooth-colored porcelain or porcelain fused to metal. A dental crown is hollow on the inside so that it can fit comfortably over the natural tooth and has an exterior surface designed and shaped to resemble the tooth it is covering.

How Are Dental Crowns Used?

Dental crowns have both restorative and cosmetic applications in dentistry. Dental Crowns are a great solution for protecting the root of your tooth and maintaining function.

-Restorative Treatment

They are most commonly used as a restorative dental treatment designed to save a natural tooth from extraction. Dental crowns are commonly used when the exterior of a tooth has been significantly weakened and/or the interior of a tooth has become compromised and infected as a result of significant decay, disease, or injury.

In these cases, a dental crown is typically applied after a patient has undergone root canal treatment that removes the tooth's pulp, sterilizes its interior, and fills the tooth to prevent further infection or complications.

-Cosmetic Treatment

Dental crowns are also an effective cosmetic treatment strategy for improving the aesthetic appearance of a person's smile. They can be used to mask permanent stains, hide silver amalgam dental fillings, fill in irregular tooth gaps, or correct the size or shape of an irregular tooth.

How Are Same Day CEREC Crowns Better?

Before the availability of same day CEREC technology, the dental crown treatment process was lengthy, complex, and not very comfortable for patients. Treatment with a dental crown used to require multiple dental appointments, physical dental impressions with bulky dental molds and putty, and for patients to wear an ill-fitting temporary crown made of plastic while waiting for a third-party dental laboratory to manufacture a permanent crown.

The Same Day CEREC Difference

Same day CEREC crowns have vastly improved the dental crown treatment process, using advanced dental care technology to provide patients with complete dental crown treatment in a single dental appointment - without the need for physical dental impressions or a plastic, temporary dental crown.

CEREC stands for "chair-side economical restoration of esthetic ceramic" and refers to a computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) process that is available right inside our dental office.

The Same Day CEREC Treatment Process

With same day crowns, our dentist prepares the patient's tooth for treatment, takes three-dimensional digital dental impressions using an intraoral scanner, and then uses high-powered software and a precision milling machine (CAD/CAM technology) to design and manufacture the custom dental crown right inside our office.

Once our milling machine has completed the patient's new, permanent dental crown, our dentist places the crown, using dental cement to permanently and securely affix it to the natural tooth. We can then make any final adjustments to ensure a completely comfortable fit for the patient. Then, the treatment is finished and the patient can return to their usual activities and enjoy their newly strengthened and protected tooth.

With same day crowns, the entire treatment process requires only a single visit to our dental office and about an hour of our patient's time.

FAQs

  • Why a crown and not a filling?some text
    • Sometimes the decay, fracture or chip has extended too deep to allow for a simple filling to cover the tooth. A crown is warranted when a certain amount of damage has affected the occlusal table of the tooth or if there is a failing metal filling which cracks and decay underneath it. A crown functionally allows a “cap” to cover the entire tooth and protect it structurally, especially in high function areas where biting and chewing is.
  • Do crowns hurt?some text
    • No! The process to receive a crown typically does not cause pain or discomfort. There may be tenderness after the appointment but the gums and tooth will settle and heal.
  • Why are crowns so expensive?some text
    • Crowns completed at Dental Oasis of Orange County are done same day via the cerec milling unit. A technologically advanced process that has been refined over the last 20 years to provide same-day crowns and restorations. The porcelain is digitally scanned, designed, stained and colored, and sintered. Once the crown is ready, it is prepared for final delivery all in a single appointment.
